Crafty Customer Spotlight

Take a moment with a Craftiness customer and find out more about how they create! Today we'll chat with Karla Moffett!

KARLA MOFFETT  is a Canoga Park, California based crafter who has been shopping at Craftiness for two and a half years.

CRAFTINESS: How would you define your creative style?

Totally unoriginal, I’m a copycat!

CRAFTINESS:  What are you currently working on and can you describe your process?

I have FINALLY found art journaling. It took a few years of trying EVERYTHING: junk journals, creating journals, book art, drawing, focusing on drawing faces, joining groups, taking online and in-person classes (pre COVID), joining challenges, ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) wall art, Gelli printing, cards, lap books, doing art swaps, making mini boxes with tiny journals in them.

I think I have found my sweet spot. Every morning, even if it's just 15 minutes, I sit down at my art table and create. My art journal is really a brain dump of what's on my mind, getting it out of my head and processing my thoughts.  I am CONSTANTLY prowling YouTube, magazines, books and Pinterest looking for inspiration and ideas.

I also art journal with my sister. We are doing a collaborative art journal right now where we each made our own art journals. We work some in a signature we created and use the other’s art as inspiration. Collaboration is fun to see what she works off of and what inspires her... be it the technique, color palette, paper, or subject matter.

CRAFTINESS: What your 12 year-old self was doing creatively?

I used to paint, do bead art and in my early 20's I was a tole painter for a bit. ( Tole painting is the folk art of decorative painting on tin and wooden utensils, objects and furniture.)

CRAFTINESS: Who inspires you right now?

YouTubers I follow and watch on the regular are Karen Campbell, Teesha Moore, Niamh Baly, LorriMarie Jenkins and Dyan Reaveley.

CRAFTINESS: Favorite song to craft by?

I am a crime podcast junkie! In particular Dateline and I love My Favorite Murder.
